Drywall- Their Types, Applications and Uses

Drywall or also known as plasterboard, wallboard, gypsum boards, sheetrock, gyprock or gypsum panel is made up of material known as calcium sulfate dihydrate (also called as gypsum). This material has panels and is used in making interior walls and ceilings. Drywall offers the tapered edges on the long edges of the drywall sheets. The additives may or may not be used to reduce mildew, flammability and water absorption. Many standard building supplies are available depending upon the activity and the place of the installation.

1. Regular Drywall or White Board: This is the most economic type of drywall and is white on one side and brown on the other side. The size ranges from 3/8 inches to 1-inch thickness. This drywall is available in 4* 8-foot panels.

2.    Green Board Drywall: This has a green board covering and is moisture resistant. However, this drywall is not waterproof. This type of drywall is used as a tile backer in places like bathrooms, basement walls, plus kitchens, laundry areas, and utility areas.

3. Blue board drywall: This is also known as plaster baseboard. This board is used for veneer plastering. This board is resistant to water and mold. This board is used in bathrooms or places of moisture and noise.
4. Paperless drywall:  This is covered with fiberglass instead of paper. This makes the board mold, mildew, and rot-resistant. This board is tougher and gives a smooth clean finish.
5. Purple drywall: This has some advantages as regular drywall, but has superior moisture and mold resistant properties. This type of drywall can be used with all wall and ceiling applications. This is water-resistant.
6. Fire-resistant drywall: This type of drywall has several layers of thickness. The high thickness is responsible for higher fire rating. This drywall is hard and difficult to cut than regular drywall. You can use this drywall in garages, rooms, and apartment buildings and building codes.
7. Type X drywall: This type of drywall is made up of noncombustible fibers. This drywall is 5/8-inches thick which makes it noise proof. This drywall must have a one-hour fire-resistance rating for 5/8-inch board or a 3/4-hour rating for the 1/2-inch board in a single layer, nailed on each face of load-bearing wood framing members.
